Another Project Finished

black and gray vest

This project has been ongoing for maybe three years.  I had some design and supply difficulties.

My husband who is a trained electronic and mechanical engineer says a wire cut to the right length will be too short.  With that inspiration I bought what I thought was plenty of braid.  Of course I could not have taken into account the changes which would be made later.  I have 6 inches braid left!

This vest was crocheted with yarn I had on hand.  I finally decided to close it with a zipper.  It’s not something one really needs in July, but at least it’s off my table now.

Second Tunic and Déjà Vu

second tunic

I have finished making the second tunic in a series of three. Upon nearing completion, I realized how similar it is to things I have made in the past. Do I have a style or am I stuck in a rut?

The dress below dates from 1979-80. It was a maternity dress which I wore with a belt afterwards. The belt dates from the early 70’s. Macramé was a thing then. I still like it. Maybe I will wear it to work in the garden.

This one dates from the 1990’s, I think.  I wore it to a niece’s wedding.

I really did a double take when I got it out—is that the exact same plaid? No, but one couldn’t get much closer.

A Brooding Hen

brooding hen

An old hen, not laying any eggs at the present, has gone broody. Must be a remnant of instinct. I explained to her about no rooster, no chicks, but she just said bok, bok, bok. One day after I nudged her with a stick which she vigorously pecked, she finally got out of the nesting box for a few minutes and I recuperated the eggs from that day and the day before, laid by our other hens. The next time I tried that, she would not budge. My husband who is braver than I managed to get that day’s egg from underneath her.

Hens are not the only ones that remain entrenched in their ways, refusing to move.

“…for I have given the princes time to listen to My Word, and still more than the time needed to repent! Since they have not repented (and since they keep) laying claim to My Strength and diverting piety toward their false works, you shall establish the true piety of My People, you shall teach Truth, you shall love My People, you shall help the oppressed man against the oppressor, the despoiled man against the despoiler; along with your brothers of the steppes, those who do not utter My Name, you shall establish equity.

(It is) better to establish it without (mentioning) My Name than let what I loathe rule in My Name. This, I shouted out from the hills, My Shout set the billows heaving off Gennesaret*, but the multitude that was listening to Me remained seated.

It would have been better for them not to recognize My Voice, but to rise as the waves of the sea, as the deaf obstinate waves rushing at the (ridge of) rock that bars their way; (so) they would have defeated sin, abomination as high as a cliff.

But the multitude that was listening to Me remained seated with their rulers and priests.”

Latest Work with Couleurs de Bretagne

These were done en plein air for a contest organized by Couleurs de Bretagne.

This one was nominated by the jury which is equivalent to being a runner-up.

This one won a prize because it was so far out of the box.  The translation of the title is “This seat is not free.”

The Little Red Hen Sews Again 2

one out of three

One out of Three

I visited (hit up?) a fabric store. When I saw the price of the pattern I told myself I must use it more than once, so three tunic-shirts are planned. Sewing is a good activity when fasting since it isn’t done in the kitchen.  🙂   I plan to vary the style and maybe do some fancy collar work. Perhaps some kind of jabot or embroidery?
